The Medical Heavy Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Contingent of Sri Lanka arrives in Myanmar

The Medical Heavy Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Team of Sri Lanka, which consists of the members of Tri Forces, arrived in Myanmar, by Charter Flight Air Craft A321N-4RANF and landed in the Yangon International Air Port today (on 05th March 2025).

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, received them at the airport, with the staff. On behalf of the Government of Myanmar, the Team was received at the airport by a team of dignitaries, including U Soe Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region, U Bo Htay, Chairman of the Yangon City Development Committee (Mayor), U Htay Aung, Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister, Colonel Win Tint, Yangon Region Security and Boarder Affairs Minster, U Zaw Phyo Win,  the Director General  Strategic Studies and Training Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and U Than Soe, Director of Department of Disaster Management of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and escorted to the VIP facility.

The Chief Minister of Yangon highly appreciated Sri Lanka for sending the relief team at this hour of need, based on the historically close friendship between the two countries, and the Ambassador added indicating the occasion as an important undertaking by Sri Lanka, based on the long-standing close bond of friendship between the two countries.

The team will be departing to Nay Pyi Taw, the administrative capital, tomorrow (06th April 2025) and will be deployed afterwards to attend the urgent humanitarian medical requirements in the affected areas of the devastating earthquake of 7.7 Richter scale that struck Myanmar on 28.03.2025, leaving thousands of casualties and injuries and destroying and damaging property.
