The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar meets the Union Minister of Home Affairs and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, Prabashini Ponnamperuma discussed about handing over and repatriation of the rescued Sri Lankans in the camps in Myawaddy, Myanmar, and other bilaterally important subjects during the two meetings she had with Lt. Gen. Tun Tun Naung, Union Minister of Home Affairs and U Ko Ko Kyaw, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar.

During the meetings with the Ministers, the Ambassador also conveyed thanks and appreciations to the Government of Myanmar, for assistance given in the rescue and repatriation of Sri Lankans in earlier occasions. Also, the efforts of the Government of Myanmar, in coordination with the Governments of Thailand and China, in cracking down the network of Cyber Scam was also appreciated.

During the meeting with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Myanmar, U Ko Ko Kyaw on the 27th of February 2025, the long standing, historical and close relations between the two countries were reiterated. In addition to the repatriation of the victims of Cyber Scam centers, other bilaterally important subjects including collaborations in the Education, Trade & Economic, Religious and Cultural Sectors were also discussed. Dr. Aung Gyaw Thu, Deputy Director Gen. of Police Department, and Dr. Aung Thu Soe, Deputy Director General of Consular Department, attended the meeting with the Deputy Minister.

The main focus of the discussion, during the meeting with the Union Minister of Home Affairs of Myanmar Lt. Gen. Tun Tun Naung, on the 28th of February 2025, was on the quick repatriation of the Sri Lankans, released from the Scam Centers and said to be in DKBA custody. The expedited assistance in screening and verification of the Sri Lankan victims were requested, and the Minister assured the continuous support and assistance of the Myanmar government for the early hand over of the Sri Lankans, for the repatriation. U Khaing Tun Oo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Deputy Chief of Myanmar Police 1 and Police Major General Tin Ko Ko, Police Brig. Gen. Kyaw Zaya, Chief of Police and Head of Division against Trans National Crimes of Myanmar Police, accompanied the Union Minister in the discussions.
