Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon Hosts Sri Lanka Promotional Event- “Flavors of Sri Lanka 2025”
The Sri Lanka Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Sri Lanka Community in Myanmar including Sri Lanka Association in Myanmar, and Sri Lanka Business entities working in Myanmar, successfully hosted, for the second time, the Culinary, Tourism and Cultural fest “Flavors of Sri Lanka 2025” at the Pan Pacific Hotel Yangon, on 6th December 2025.
The opening segment of the event was utilized to highlight the devastation caused to the country by the recent adverse flood and cyclonic weather conditions, observing one minute silence. The occasion was also utilized to accept much needed donations, made by the friendly Myanmar community, for the relief efforts in Sri Lanka.
The main objective of the event was to showcase and promote tourism, culture and cuisine of Sri Lanka, enhancing the visibility, and to further promote the country as an outstanding and momentous destination among tourists. Therefore, the event was an opportunity and a platform, to celebrate Sri Lankan gastronomy, as well as to promote the country as an attractive tourist destination, and a cultural hub. Further, strengthening trade, economic, and people-to-people connections, while encouraging contributions towards the country’s rebuilding efforts, was also targeted.
In her opening remarks, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar Mrs. Prabashini Ponnamperuma reaffirmed the significance of the historical bilateral relations between the two nations. The Ambassador briefed the audience on the current situation in Sri Lanka, and thanked all the countries, including Myanmar, who extended assistance and support to Sri Lanka during the hour of need. She invited the international and business communities to actively support and participate in the country’s rebuilding and recovery efforts. The Ambassador also conveyed thanks and gratitude to all sponsors, partners, participants, and members of the Sri Lankan community in Myanmar whose support made this event a success.
Adding a vibrant cultural touch to the event, the Sri Lanka Air Force dance troupe captivated the audience with fascinating traditional Sri Lanka dance performances, that showcased the rich traditional dance legacy of the island. Myanmar traditional dances were also performed, reflecting the close cultural ties and friendship between the two countries.
To ensure an authentic Sri Lankan culinary experience for the guests, the Embassy, with the assistance of a generous sponsor, got down an experienced chef from Sri Lanka, who assisted in preparing an array of traditional Sri Lankan dishes, offering attendees a chance to experience the island’s prominent flavors, pulsating spices, and culinary methods. All the guests were offered Ceylon tea.
Sri Lanka’s scenic beauty, heritage sites, and tourism opportunities were highlighted through continuous screenings of promotional videos throughout the event, in a large LED screen. Accordingly, the diverse travel experiences, entangled with the rich culture, natural beauty, wildlife, and culinary traditions of the country were highlighted. A gift bag, with items, including Ceylon tea, and tourism promotional material were offered to all the guests.
The event, which was attended by more than 300 guests, was participated by the Chief Minister, Yangon Region Government, U Soe Thein, Mayor and Chairman, Yangon City Development Committee U Bo Htay, Minister for Economic Affairs, Yangon Region Government, U Myo Myint Aung, Myanmar Government officials, diplomatic community including Ambassadors and Heads of Mission, UN Organization Representatives, Travel Industry Professionals, tour operators, travel agent organizations, and journalists. Extensive reporting by Myanmar media ensured that the spirit and significance of the event reached a broader audience.
The flavors of Sri Lanka 2025 has been hosted for the second consecutive year, as a part of a two day tourism, trade and investment promotion event, on 5th and 6th December 2025, where two successful B2B sessions were also conducted, earlier – one focusing on the Information Technology sector and the other on tourism – creating valuable opportunities for partnerships between Sri Lankan business enterprises and Myanmar business stakeholders. It is expected that the success of this Sri Lanka Promotional event will serve in further and deeper collaboration between Sri Lanka and Myanmar in tourism, trade, culture, and mutual reconstruction initiatives.
